Fairytale Wedding Planning in the UK: Your Bridal Hair & Make-up Artist!

Your Bridal Hair & Make-up Artist!

We all want to look and feel our very best on our special day, so choosing the right Hair & Make-up artist for you is most certainly a must!

Social media is one of the best ways to find your bridal Hair and Make-up artist. A good Hair and Make-up artist will display all their past work and be able to create a number of different styles flawlessly - this will give you a feel of the artist's work style.  You should find a large collection of images for you to view with a wide variety of different styles. You may even find your perfect bridal style! You will also be able to take a look at their reviews and read about them. If you like the look of their work, reviews and the sound of them then the next step is to make contact with them via telephone, email or arrange an online video consultation. You can then arrange a date for your bridal hair and make-up trial.

Recommendations through family and friends are always great and by all means check them out, they may be the perfect artist for you.  Just remember that all stylists work differently so what may have been the right stylist for your family member or friend, may not be the right one for you. One bride-to-be told me she had been recommended a few different Hair and Make-up artists and just didn't feel they were right for her and she felt bad about it. I told her she had nothing to feel bad about and that we are all different through are personalities and also in the way we work. She then took my advice by searching on social media and in the end she found her perfect Hair and Make-up artist who she is still using, even after her wedding and they have become good friends. Choosing an artist that is right for you may take some time but it will be worth it.

Your trial is a great way to get to know your artist and talk about the different styles and of course try them out. You need to let your artist know your honest opinion, this is what your trial is for and if you're not 100% happy then you need to let your artist know.

I booked my Hair and Make-up artist as soon as I had my wedding date and our venue was booked. I knew that having a good Hair and Make up artist for my wedding was something I wouldn't regret, and I wanted to make sure I booked early enough so I knew they would be available. Having a Hair and Make-up artist on your special day will help you so much - it will take away a huge amount of stress on the morning of your wedding, giving you time to relax and be pampered... well why not, it is your wedding day!

Award Winning Sally Malcolm from Blushing Brides

Sally Malcolm is a very talented and creative Hair and Make-up artist with years of experience. Here she tells us about herself and offers some great advice.

Blushing Brides was officially established in April 2009 by myself, Sally Malcolm, after I was made redundant from a premium cosmetic brand. It was at that point that I decided to launch my own business & "Blushing Brides" was born!

Having initially trained & qualified as a hairdresser and then moving into the cosmetic industry I have certainly gained lots of experience. The transition into the wedding industry was such an exciting move as I'd been involved in so many weddings over the years that it just seemed an obvious career path for me. I simply love weddings!

I feel extremely privileged to share such an important day.....

When thinking about booking your hair & make up artist for you wedding it is very important to firstly check out their work. We all have our own unique 'style' so find an artist that you like the look of and then make contact!

The most important question that you should first ask is if your date is available. Be aware that the best hair & make up artists will get booked up at least 12 or 18 months in advance. It is very unusual for us to be available last minute, particularly in the main wedding season which really starts in April & goes on until the end of October nowadays!

If you've chosen your date and booked the venue, my best advice is to secure all your chosen suppliers asap. We hate to disappoint!

Bridal prep should be enjoyable so it's important to choose the right stylist for you. I offer a complimentary consultation in my studio so that Brides can meet me before they book, or of course we can 'chat' via a phone call, social media or even have a video call. You need to feel comfortable with who you decide on. Don't just go by the price. Someone who charges top money is not necessarily the best hair & make up artist and vice versa. Do your research and don't be afraid to ask questions!

My hair & make up 'style' is most definitely making you look and feel the best version of YOU!

A Bride should always have a trial unless this is impossible due to living out of area / time restraints.

My rates for the Bride include a full trial at my studio in Bournemouth, Dorset.

During the trial we discuss all the timing details of your wedding as well as trying out various style ideas that you might have. I usually allow 2 to 3 hours for a hair & make up trial.

Bringing pictures of hairstyle & make up looks is great, but keep an open mind. Sometimes that intricate

Updo that you love on Pinterest just doesn't 'wow' you, but the loose hair down style might!

The timing of the Bridal prep is so important. A Bridal stylist with experience will know exactly how much time is needed. That is why it's so important to use a professional rather than rely on a friend or hairdresser / store based MUA who doesn't usually do weddings. It's just not worth the risk. No Bride wants to be stressed on the wedding morning. My Brides always comment that I bring an air of calmness. I'm really just being myself but will admit that I'm very hot on my timing!

It's never too soon to start looking after your skin & hair if you don't already. Get into good habits a long time before the big day, not just in the final run up. A skin that is well looked after will make such a difference to make up application and even if you are growing your hair, regular trims are so important to keep it in tip top condition. Invest in a good hairdresser who isn't too scissor happy though!

As an experienced Bridal stylist I will always arrive on time to your home or venue on the wedding morning. Often, I travel distances too but I will always map out my route & add a bit of time on as well. I don't want to be late and neither do you!

I like to wait until the bridal party is completely ready. That way I can do any final touches that need doing before you walk down that aisle!

I'm often not just doing hair & make up - I help with dresses, pin on corsages / buttonholes & sometimes even entertain children while those final last minute nerves kick in. It's all part of the service!

I simply LOVE what I do.

Sally is fully qualified in both hairdressing & make-up.

Fully insured & DBS checked.

Travels throughout Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Somerset & Devon.
